13 April 2025, 18.00 - Erbarme Dich
Vondelkerk, Amsterdam
Experience the musical triptych Henk van Twillert in Concert, presented by Stadsherstel at three beautiful locations in Amsterdam: Posthoornkerk, Vondelkerk, and Oosterkerk.
The saxophone, particularly the baritone saxophone, takes center stage in these three concerts, featuring interpretations of both new and classical repertoire for the classical saxophone. Expect remarkable new compositions, transcriptions, and original works for saxophone solo and saxophone ensemble. The first concert, Premiėres on 23 February at Posthoornkerk, showcases brand-new compositions for baritone saxophone by leading Amsterdam composers Chiel Meijering, Gijs van Dijk, Loek Dikker, Rob Hauser, and Huba de Graaff. Adriana Oliveira will join Henk van Twillert on stage for the premiere of Amsterdam Baritone Waltz, a new composition for two baritone saxophones by Huba de Graaff. The second concert, Erbarme Dich, takes place on 13 April at Vondelkerk. Following the tradition of Amsterdam’s numerous performances of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and St. John Passion, this concert serves as a prelude to Easter on Palm Sunday. Henk van Twillert, on his beloved baritone saxophone, will perform highlights from Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. Matthew Passion along with selections from the famous Cello Suites. The third and final concert of Henk van Twillert in Concert, presented by Stadsherstel, celebrates Amsterdam 750 on 18 May at Oosterkerk. In this special performance, Henk van Twillert and the Portuguese Saxophone Ensemble Vento do Norte will connect Amsterdam and Porto through music and water, featuring pieces such as the iconic Canção do Mar (Song of the Sea) and, of course, Aan de Amsterdamse Grachten.
