"After 27 wonderful years, since I created the first classical saxophone class in Portugal, at ESMAE, in 1999, the time has come to close this chapter and begin a new stage in Leipzig, Germany, where I will be teaching classical saxophone at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
To mark this very special moment, I will have the immense pleasure of performing as a soloist with the prestigious Portuguese Symphonic Band, under the direction of Peter Sommerer (Leipzig), interpreting Mondrian, Johan de Meij's masterpiece, with special set design by Rob Hauser.

"Contrasting sound worlds come together in this concert conducted by Peter Sommerer, Artistic Director of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic. In Othello: A Symphonic Portrait, Alfred Reed transforms Shakespeare’s drama into a sequence of musical scenes, from love to tragedy. Theme and Variations reveals the virtuosity of Arnold Schoenberg’s musical writing, in a composition conceived for wind band, while Johann Strauss II’s score brings us the brilliance and charm of Vienna. The programme also includes excerpts from an opera by Jorge Salgueiro and culminates with a work by Johann de Meij featuring Henk van Twillert as soloist—an opportunity to celebrate the multifaceted career and legacy that the saxophonist has built through teaching and performing on the instrument in Portugal."
